Rozelle Square

Habit8 was engaged by Leichhardt Council to prepare a landscape concept that would be carried through to construction in Rozelle Square. The brief was to create an engaging public space that included a footpath extension, planting, furniture, paving, treatment to existing trees and lighting. Our vision was to design a small urban plaza that formed a division between the Rozelle Public School and the adjacent streetscape.

The design focused on rejuvinating and activating the existing space, whilst adressing and responding to the surrounding landscape. This multifunctional area, promotes interaction between people, whilst providing an area for people to alternatively sit and relax.

The concept includes the installation of a raised deck and inbuilt seating pods. The raised deck has been designed around the existing fig tree, utilising the shade provided to create an area for respite and relax. Lighting and additional paving have also been installed to uplift the area and to accentuate landscape features and ensure a safe, useable public space.

The project involved community consultation and consultant coordination including heritage experts, arborists and accessibility consultants.
