Ernest Place, Crows Nest

Habit8 was engaged by North Sydney Council to upgrade the existing masterplan for Ernest Place Town Centre. The brief was to create a staged memorial and community space that was both cohesive, inviting and accommodated all users. Our vision was to create a design that both simplified the space and levels of the existing town centre, whilst maximising the flexibility of use by local groups and visitors. The design is user focused with the experience of the individual and their interaction with local business and culture as the catalyst to the proposed interventions.

The proposed development included: regrading of the site and removal of walls to allow for easy access between paved and grass zones; a new paving scheme; additional seating and lighting; widening of the footpath; a new performance stage and memorial space; a light weight weather proof canopy structure; sitting walls and planter beds; and the removal of the terraced steps on the existing water feature in consideration for the safety of children.
